At Buckley House, the Year 1 teachers have begun trialing a blog designed for parents to participate in their child’s learning. The blog is developing a sense of connectedness between the classroom and home. It is one of ways used by the Year 1 teachers to highlight learning experiences and provide information about up-coming events, reminders and weekly curriculum overviews. This has allowed parents to initiate discussions with their children about what is happening in the classroom and provided an opportunity for the children to consolidate their learning at home. The teachers have received positive comments from parents;
- “I love being a part of what is going on in the classroom”.
- “It’s great to know what is happening at school, so we can continue the learning at home”.
- “We really enjoy seeing the photos of our son having fun while he is learning”.
Students enjoy revisiting their learning through the blog and gain a sense of immense pride in their efforts.
The Year 1 blog demonstrates the ease in which we can all communicate and fosters ongoing communication between our classrooms and families at Buckley House.
The blog can be found on Ivanhoe Connect under the Communications menu.
